Abstract

The Rushville Runestone was discovered by Erich Kennedy in 1972, on the hillside immediately above the "Old Spring" north of Rushville, Fairfield Co., Ohio. McCulloch (1990) has conclusively shown that the carving is a copy of a "Norse" inscription appearing in Nevil Shute's romantic novel, "An Old Captivity," first published in 1940 (paperback edition 1962), so that any notion the artifact is a genuine ancient Norse carving is untenable.
