Abstract

The pressure broadened widths of lines of carbon dioxide broadened by oxygen and dry air have been estimated by and analysis of the 9.4 and 10.4μm bands using methods described previously1. The data were obtained with a commercial Nicolet F.T.S. of resolution approximately 0.06cm−1, a path length of 130 meters, and pressures of approximately one atmosphere. Spectra were obtained over a temperature range of about 60C, including room temperature. Preliminary estimates for O2 broadening are consistent with the few previous results2,3. In particular it has been found that the temperature dependence (To/T)γ is more satisfactorily modeled with an exponent γ of approximately. 75. 1M. HOKE and J.
