Abstract

Jet cooled benzyl and p-methylbenzyl radicals have been produced from a heated pulsed nozzle source following laser photolysis of benzyl chloride and chloro-p-xylene, respectively. The laser induce α fluorescence spectra of the A1 (22326cm−1) and 6a01 (22432cm−1) bands of benzyl and the 000 (21700cm−1) band of p-methylbenzyl were recorded. The results of the rotational analysis of the benzyl bands and the rotational-torsional analysis of the p-methylbenzyl band will be presented.
