Abstract

The analysis of a well-resolved electron-spin-resonance (ESR) spectrum of a silver cluster trapped in solid neon at 4K has established it as Ag7. 109Ag hyperfine structure shows that the single electron spin is interacting strongly with two equivalent (axial) Ag nuclei and weakly with five equivalent (equatorial) Ag nuclei. It has D5h symmetry and a 2A2 ground state. These properties are analogous to its Group IA alkali-metal counterparts.
