ANALYSIS OF THE SPECTRUM OF HYDROGEN SULFIDE NEAR 1.6 MICRONS.

Abstract
We have assigned about 280 transitions in the (1,1,1) and (2,1,0) bands of $H_{2}^{32}S$ at $6289.15 cm^{-1}$ and $6288.16 cm^{-1}$, respectively. A simultaneous analysis (by lest squares) of 170 distinct ground state combination differences from the two bands, together with the two observed microwave $lines,^{1}$ yielded the following values for the ground state molecular constants: (in $cm^{-1}) A_{0}=10.3606 \pm 0.0005, B_{0}=9.0164 \pm 0.0005, C_{0}=4.7305 \pm 0.0004, \tau_{aaa}=-0.00803 \pm 0.00014,\tau _{bbbb}=-0.00484 \pm 0.00005, \tau_{aabb}=0.00456 \pm 0.00011, \tau_{abab}=-0.00134 \pm 0.00007$, and $H^{k}_{0}= - (4.7 \pm 2) \times 10^{-8}$ (with simultaneous confidence intervals at the 95\% level). Determination of upper state molecular constants is hampered by the presence of a Coriolis interaction between the upper states of these two bands which shifts numerous levels by several tenths of a $cm^{-1}$. Preliminary estimates of the upper state molecular constants have been obtained from line fits of the separate bands with about 50 of the ``most perturbed'' lines omitted.
