Abstract

Spectroscopic constants, dipole moments, and the resulting average structures for six isotopes of Xe-HF have been determined. Spectroscopic constants for the two $^{131}Xe$ isotopes are listed: \begin{table}[h] \begin{tabular}{@{}lrcl@{}} &\multicolumn{1}{c}{$B_{0}(MHz)$} &\multicolumn{1}{c}{$D_{0}(KHz)$} &\multicolumn{1}{c}{$eQq_{a}(_{131}Xe)(MHz)$}\\ &\multicolumn{1}{c}{\hrulefill} &\multicolumn{1}{c}{\hrulefill} &\multicolumn{1}{c}{\hrulefill}\\ $131_{Xe-HF}$ &2035.563(5) &18.2(2) &-8.589(39)\\ $131_{Xe-DF}$ &1991.268(3) &15.8(1) &-10.567(27)\\ \end{tabular} \end{table} The coupling constants were interpreted using an electrostatic model, and the electric field gradient at the Xe nucleus was found to scale with the field gradient arising from HF(D). A value of $eQq(^{131}Xe) = -14 MHz$ was estimated for the linear Xe-H-F equilibrium structure.
