Abstract

An extension of the transition assignments in the rotational spectrum of hydrogen sulfide investigated by Bell, Hansler, and Oetjen (Phys. Rev. 88:174A (1952)) is made for J=11 through J=15, in the region 120 K to 200 K. Rigid rotor energy levels for these J’s are computed, using the rotational constants AO=10.393K,BO=9.040K, and CO=4.723K: given by Crawford and Cross (J. Chem. Phys. 5:621 (1937)). Centrifugal stretching corrections are made using the method of Kivelson and Wilson (J. Chem. Phys. 20:1575 (1952)). Intensities are computed using an extrapolation of the table of line strengths of Cross, Hainer, and King (J. Chem. Phys. 12: 210 (1944)). For lines lying in the range 120 K to 200 K, Intensities are found to be negligible, save for low τ transitions, as is to be expected. Several lines are thus assigned. In addition, it is found that a slight change in the rotational constant A brings several of the high τ transitions previously computed and assigned by Hansler for J<11 into better agreement with the actual spectrum.
