Abstract

The electric field induced changes were observed in the absorption spectra of both parallel and perpendicular bands of several methyl halide molecules. The spectra were obtained using a light-guide type of Stark cell of length one meter, pressure approximately 10 torr with alternating electric field at 45 Hz of amplitude approximately $8,000 volts/cm^{-1}$, and phase sensitive detection at 90 Hz.
