Abstract

A high resolution infrared absorption spectrum is presented for the region of the R branch of the second overtone of the triply degenerate fundamental $\nu_{3}$ of $CH_{4}$. Comparisons are made between the tetrahedral fine structure splittings in this spectrum, in the spectra of $\nu_{3}$ and $2\nu_{3}$ of $CH_{4}$ and $2\nu_{3}$ of $CD_{4}$, and in the theoretical dominant $approximation.^{1}$
