Abstract

“Ammonia borane, monomethylamine borane and dimethylamine borane, which have been synthesized quite $recently,^{1}$ lend themselves nicely to a comparative study of substances containing the boron-nitrogen dative bond. Raman spectra of these compounds together with that of trimethylamine borane have been obtained from solutions in suitable solvents. Spectra of the isotopic compounds $BD_{3}NH_{3}$, $BH_{3}ND_{3}$ and $BD_{3}ND_{3}$ have also been obtained to and in the interpretation of the results and the work has been extended to include compounds prepared with boron-10. The vibrational frequencies and assignments of this series of compounds will be discussed and in particular the frequencies associated with the boron-nitrogen dative bond.”
