Abstract
The absorption measurements were obtained with a 21-ft concave-grating instrument operated in the fourth and fifth orders with microwave excited argon and krypton continua being used as background sources. Observations were made on the following band systems: $ a^{1}\Pi_{g}-X^{1}\Sigma^{+}_{g}(v^{1} = 0-15), a^{1} \Sigma^{-}_{u}-X^{1}\Sigma_{g}(v^{1} = 0-19), B^{1}\ {^{3}}\Sigma^{-}_{u}-X^{1}\Sigma_{g} (v^{1} = 0-18), C {^{3}}\Pi_{u}-X^{1}\Sigma_{g}(v^{\prime}=0-2)$. Rotational analyses were performed on all bands except the (0-0) band of the a-X system. $N^{14}-N^{15}$ isotope bands of the $a-X (v^{\prime}1 = 3-11)$ system were also observed and analyzed. Two completely independent analyses were done on each band. Sharp lines were reproduced to $\pm 0.03 cm^{-1}$. $B_{v}$ 's appear to be good to $\pm 0.0003 cm^{-1}$. Band origins are reproduced to within the accuracy of the standards, $\pm 0.15 cm^{-1}$. The isotope corrections of Dunham do not adequately reproduce the measured constants of the $N^{14}-N^{15}$ system. Potential curves and Franck-Condon factors are being calculated. Plate density readings on all bands have been made.
