Abstract
Microwave spectroscopy has been used to investigate the volatile products from the reaction of ozone with cis- and trans-1,2-difluoroethylene in solution. The microwave spectra of formyl fluoride and several new compounds including cis-1,2-difluoroethylene oxide, cis- and trans-1,2-difluoroethylene ozonide and cis-1,2,3-trifluorocyclopropane were observed as products from the ozonolysis of the cis olefin. The assignment of the microwave spectra of cis-1,2-difluoroethylene oxide is discussed and a number of deuterium labeling experiments are described which elucidate the reaction pathways leading to the ozonolysis products. In the following paper, a microwave study of cis-1,2,3-trifluorocyclopropane is discussed in detail.
