Abstract

A sample of $CO_{2}$ was synthesized from water containing $10\% H_{2}O^{18}$, and the infrared spectrum was studied on a vacuum grating spectrometer. The region from 5200 to $1850 cm^{-1}$ was covered using PbS and PbTe photoconductive detectors and spectral slit widths from 0.2 to $0.3 cm^{-1}$. Various bands of $O^{18}$-substituted species of $CO_{2}$ were observed, including the Fermi-resonant triad $(20^{\circ}0, 12^{\circ}, 0 4^{\circ}$ of $C^{12}O^{16}O^{18}$ forbidden to the symmetric species. These and other results will be discussed.
