Abstract

During a recent spectroscopic study of $CdCH_{3}$, in which this radical was prepared in a free jet expansion by laser photolysis of $Cd(CH_{3})_{2}$, weak bands were found to be present adjacent to $CdCH_{3}$ vibrunic features which were attributed to clusters of the type $X-CdCH_{3}$ where X represents an inert gas $atom.^{1}$ We have successfully recorded laser excitation spectra for the cases where X = He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe. The $\bar{A}-\bar{X}$ electronic origins of these clusters have been determined and all are found to be blue-shifted with respect to the $\bar{A}-\bar{X}O_{0}^{0}$ band of $CdCH_{3}$. Furthermore, vibrational structure has been resolved in the spectra of $He-CdCH_{3}$, $Ne-CdCH_{3}$, $ Ar-CdCH_{3}$, and $Kr-CdCH_{3}$. We will discuss this vibrational structure and will also present preliminary results from a study of the $H_{2}-CdCH_{3}$ cluster.
