Abstract
The project that I have pursued using my STEP funds consisted of a 10-day experience in Rome, Italy, through The Ohio State University’s Literary Locations program. I have always been intrigued by Roman art, history, and literature given that my family has Italian roots. On May 4th, 2019, I departed from the Pittsburgh International Airport to begin my travels to the Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport in Rome. Upon arriving in Rome on May 5th, I met with my English 4400, Literary Locations, classmates and our professor, Sean O’Sullivan, to begin our sightseeing experience, based upon literature that we studied in-class. Before embarking on our travels to Rome, my classmates and I were enrolled in a three-credit hour class that gave a background of Roman literature and the history behind it. Once we arrived in Europe, we stayed in a centrally-located hotel for the entire duration of the university program. Furthermore, in order to attend this trip, I was be enrolled in a one-credit hour Independent Studies class over the summer, making this experience as a whole worth four-credit hours. This experience has provided me with credits towards my graduation and an educationally-based world travel experience that has expanded my knowledge of history and culture within literature. I spent the majority of time in Rome with my classmates, participating in group tours and activities, however, I was responsible for planning and booking my own flights, allowing for a period of extended stay in Europe. The official trip ended on May 15th, 2019.
