Abstract

One of the fruits of the recent developments in the far infrared techniques has been the knowledge of the whole lattice vibration spectrum of a solid and its evolution with temperature. We specially consider here the case of potassium bromide, sodium iodide, ZnS, ZnSe, ZnTe, CdTe, CuCl, CuBr, CuI, AgCl, TlCl, TiBr, TlI, molten quartz and crystalline quartz. Several far infrared electronic transitions will also be described. The measurements are obtained either by grating spectroscopy or Fourier transpose spectroscopy.
