In recent years the $C2\Pi$ state of AIO has been the subject of some controversy. In 1994 Towle $etal.a$ published the results and analysis of a high resolution study of the $C2\Pi -X2\Sigma +(0,0)$ band. Later in 1994 Towle $etal.b$ published a reanalysis of that data in combination more data from Singh and $Sakenac$ The reanalysis yielded molecular constants for the $C2\Pi$ state that were in agreement with those published $ina$ to within experimental accuracy. Ito $etal.d$ have reanalyzed the data $fromc$ and published a set of molecular constants that are markedly different from those of Towle $etal.a$ These differences will be discussed.
