Abstract

By Stark shifting the absorption lines of $CD_{3}Cl$ into coincidence with $CO_{2}$ laser lines we have observed the spectrum of the $\nu_{2}$ and $\nu_{5}$ bands of $CD_{3}Cl$ for both the chlorine isotopes. As shown by DiLauro and $Mills^{1}$ the $\nu_{2}$ band is strongly perturbed by the $\nu_{5}$ band and this perturbation must be taken into account in any detailed analysis. This particular system was chosen because it is fairly well understood, and many infrared spectra will show perturbations of this type. We are analyzing the Stark spectra of this perturbed system and will present preliminary results of this analysis.
