Abstract
Double resonance effects induced by a radiofrequency field have been exhibited on the output of the D CO submillimeter laser pumped by a CO infrared laser. Observation of the variations of the laser output power as a function of RF frequency provides information on the splitting of levels involved in the submn emission process and thus an assignment of these levels is made possible. Autler Townes splitting had also been observed on the emission profile of this laser and a new laser line induced by the RF pumping has been measured. The method used here proves useful for (i) assigning submn laser lines (ii) modulating the laser output power and (iii) generating new laser lines.
