Abstract

Metal-containing fullerenes were produced in a carbon are discharge. Ions contained in buckyballs are free to vibrate within the cavity and have large transition moments corresponding to this motion. Different fullerene cages have characteristic bands related to the size and shape of the cage. We are attempting to observe these strong far-infrared transitions.
