Abstract

Absorption in the region from $4000 cm^{-1}$ to $5000 cm^{-1}$ (the fundamental vibrational band) has been recorded for the case of solid 92% orthohydrogen. At temperatures below the hcp-fcc phase transition part of the absorption is associated with the creation of ``spin-wave'' excitations which correspond to the propagation of disturbances in the state of orientational order of the ortho molecules.
