The electronic excited states of the methano-bridged annulenes 1, 2, and 3, as well as their polyene analogs 4-9 have been investigated by UV-visible absorption, polarized fluorescence, and magnetic circular dichroism. Interpretetations are based on $\pi$- electron calculations. [FIGURE].
