Abstract
The work on intensities of hyperfine components in saturation spectroscopy which was presented at the Columbus Symposium last $^year^{1,2}$ has been extended; easy-to-handle formulae, taking into account the level degeneracy, are now available for the intensities of all kinds of saturation resonances: recoil components, Doppler-generated-level-crossings, linear or circular, Identical or different polarizations for the two laser beams, for any set of values of the total angular momentum associated with the three levels involved In resonance. To predict the structure, assign the quantum numbers and calculate the Intensities, it is necessary to solve a preliminary question: among all the possible values for the total nuclear spin, which ones may be attributed to a rovibronic level when the Pauli principle is satisfied? We shall give methods to answer this question. The previous theoretical results will be illustrated by a saturation spectrum exhibiting the magnetic hyperfine structure of the P(33) A1/2 line of the $\nu_{3}$ band of $SF_{6}.^{3}$ improved experimental spectra will be presented and the agreement with the theoretical spectra deduced from the coupling constants measured in the vibrational ground $state^{4}$ will be discussed.
