Abstract

A CW argon/krypton ion laser was used to excite several different vibronic levels of glyoxal vapor. One of the levels excited was the vibrationaless level of the $^{3}A_{u}$ state. The other excitations produced different vibronic levels of the first excited singlet $state,^{1}A_{u}$. The direct excitation of the vibrationaless $^{3}A_{u}$ state allows one to study the electronic relaxation processes of a Boltzmann population of triplet vibronic levels. Single vibronic level fluorescence spectra from the $^{1}A_{u}$ vibronic levels will be presented, and the nature of the electronic relaxation processes of these singlet vibronic levels and the triplet state formed by intersystem crossing will be discussed.
