Abstract
The ReVamp Collective is an innovative interior design project in an adaptive reuse building in Franklinton. This design research aims to address how to create an environment that promotes sustainable fashion and the adaptive reuse of clothing and to help fulfill a closed-loop cycle within the community. This unique program offers a dual-purpose space, part learning, and part thrift store. It will serve as a place for those interested in the fashion world to come in and learn how to upcycle clothing into new items. These will include sewing, screen-printing, and digital design courses, and will also serve as credit-bearing coursework for educational opportunities. The street-level thrift store component of this project will be home to all of the items that are created during the aforementioned courses. This project now aligns with the United Nations Sustainability Goal #8, which states to “promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.” The ReVamp Collective helps to promote a closed-loop cycle within Franklinton by turning clothing waste into something new while continuing to generate business back into the community.
