Abstract

The MOA between between OSU and Cairo University was signed in 2012. The active collaboration is in laser experiments, plasma opacity and atomic physics calculations, OSU plays the role training at Cairo University through delivering research-based atomic astrophysics courses with computational workshops using the facilities of Ohio Supercomputer Center and research guidance to students. About 15 institutions in and around Cairo are now affiliated to OSU through member participation in the course.

Description

IMPACT. 1: Through collaboration OSU has established a prominent presence in Cairo University. Scholars on Egyptian government scholarship come to OSU for research. More students are applying for a Ph.D. at OSU. -- 2. Atomic astrophysics course by Sultana Nahar is very popular as it also provides exposure to current research interests. Participants from various institutions attending the course are interested in collaborative efforts. -- 3. Cairo University attracts African and Middle Eastern countries for degrees and holds international conferences. These international members, such as, from Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, Oman, Yemen, Iraq, came to know about the OSU-Cairo University MOA and activities, and are interested in having an MOA with OSU.

COMMUNITY PARTNERS: Cairo University is under the MOA. However there are about 15 universities and institutions unofficially connected and interested in OSU.
