Abstract

Homogeneous mixed crystals of NaClO3 and NaBrO3 can be prepared in which one ion is isomorphously substituted for another over a wide range of concentrations. The near-normal-incidence infrared reflectivity and Raman spectra are reported for the internal optic modes. Classical two mode behavior is observed throughout the concentration range studied. In all cases the longitudinal mode is observed to be more susceptible to dilution than the corresponding transverse mode, decreasing rapidly in both frequency and intensity.
