“The weakly allowed satellite branches of the infrared spectrum of NO have been observed. These forbidden transitions are made allowed by the uncoupling of spin from the molecular axis as a result of the rotation of the molecule. Lines are observed which correspond to transitions between the $v″=O,J″$ levels of the $\mathrm{<mrow\; data-mjx-texclass="ORD">2</mrow>}\Pi 1/2$ state to the $v\prime =1,J\prime$ levels of the $\mathrm{<mrow\; data-mjx-texclass="ORD">2</mrow>}\Pi 1/3$ state and lie about $120cm-1$ above the normal fundamental. A comparison between the observed intensities and those predicted from the theory will be discussed.”
