Abstract
The sampling theorem is sometimes interpreted as stating that one needs to record only two samples per spectral feature or line in order to make possible complete recovery of the original data by reconstruction. The minimum number of points per full width at half height, and manner of recovery to specified accuracies, will be given for Gaussian and Lorentzian lines, and the results compared with the situation of taking and storing more samples in the first place.
