Abstract

Polarized infrared spectra of an oriented polycrystalline film of one polymorph of bromoacetic acid have been recorded. These data will be compared to the solid phase spectra and assignment published $earlier^{1}$ and to the X-ray diffraction data published on two polymorphs of bromoacetic $acid.^{2}$ The data afforded by the increased resolution in the infrared polarisation studies along with appropriate factor group analyses have allowed approximations of both site and factor group symmetries. The data will be discussed in relation to minor deviations from strict $C_{2h}$ symmetry of dimeric bromoacetic acid in the crystal.
