Abstract
Description
Beograd
Oil painting (1904) by Paja Jovanović, presently in the National Museum, Belgrade. Seems based on the epic song "Ženidba Dušanova" (Vuk Karađić, 1845). In fact, King Dušan married (1332) Princess Elena, sister of Tsar Ivan Alexander of Bulgaria.
This item comes from a region where place names vary historically and politically. We have used the Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names (TGN) as a source for controlled place names. (http://www.getty.edu/research/conducting_research/vocabularies/tgn/)
