Abstract

Several new kinds of heat pipe ovens are described that have been used for studies of high temperature molecular vapors. They have been used in absorption, fluorescence, magnetic rotation, and emission spectroscopy of the alkali molecules. With these ovens new molecular species have been produced over extended path lengths. The conventional heat pipe oven has been limited to materials that have been able to wet the wick structure in the oven. A new wickless heat pipe that can be used to study vapors of almost any material will be discussed. This work has been supported by a Research Corporation Grant and by the Fordham University Faculty Research Grant Program.
