Abstract
This paper considers the effects of government policies when processed food markets are imperfectly competitive. Importantly, the effects differ between Bertrand and Cournot competition. In particular, although there is incomplete policy transmission to food prices, it is greater if firms follow Bertrand rather than Coumot strategies when products are differentiated.
