Abstract

The 4545 {\AA} line of the Ar+ laser excites the PR1(12) line of a vibrational band of the 2B1−2A1 system of NO2 . Fluorescence from the upper level forms a long progression in the bending vibration which reaches a maximum intensity at v2""≈12.. The detailed intensity distribution of fluorescence allows comparison of observed and calculated Franck-Condon factors, giving additional information about the vibrational wavefunction in the excited electronic state.
