Abstract

The spectra of the three diazine molecules, pyrazine, pyrimidine and pyridazine, and the fully deuterated species of the first two of these, have been photographed at high dispersion between 1100 {\AA} and 2000 {\AA}. Several electronic transitions involving both valence shell electron inter-excitations and Rydberg-type transitions have been assigned for each molecule based on experimental evidence and analogy with isoelectronic molecules. High resolution investigations have enabled a definite assignment of polarization to be made for some bands in the spectra. Confirmation of some of the earlier interpretations of the benzene spectrum have resulted from this study. Vibrational analyses are mentioned only in so far as they aid electronic identification.
