Abstract
Current secretary-general of the Freedom Movement of Iran. Yazdi served as foreign minister in the interim government of Mehdi Bazargan after the Islamic Revolution of 1979. He resigned in protest after the Ayatollah Khomeini endorsed the takeover of the U.S. Embassy by radicals. In recent trips to Washington, Yazdi advocated for democratic values, pluralism, and cooperation to guide the future of Iranian politics. He has said that the United States "needs to negotiate with Iran without
preconditions" to resolve tensions and allow for Iran’s political development.
