Hydrogen cyanide and the cyanogen halides have characteristic chain-like structures in the solid state. Raman spectra of these compounds have been obtained and will be discussed in terms of their known crystal structures. Reasonable sets of force constants can be obtained for these solids by using a linear triatomic chain approximation.
