Abstract

It is globally accepted that evidence-based practice (EBP) is the fundamental framework for formulation and delivery of best clinical practice. Thus, it is no longer acceptable to rely on the philosophy of doing things the way they have been always been done or on traditional practices (Fence & Matthews, 2017). There is an abundance of literature on the importance of EBP and implementation at the bedside. The focus of most of these publications is on implementation by registered nurses (RNs) at the bedside. However, there is a growing body of literature specifically on the role of the advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) in implementing EBP that has identified a lack of routine use of EBP in daily practice. There were two objectives for this DNP project. The first was to obtain baseline data on APRN EBP beliefs, current EBP implementation practices, and organizational and cultural readiness for EBP. The second objective was to use survey results to develop an educational program to enhance EBP practice among APRNs in this institution. The long-term goal of the project is to increase hospital-wide implementation of APRN utilization of EBP.
