Abstract
The apparatus used to record Resonance Raman Spectra of photoinduced transients with nanosecond time resolution is described. The value of information on the vibrational quanta of intermediates for the elucidation of reaction mechanisms is demonstrated by various examples. In view of the fact that photoinduced reactions of excited stilbenes are among the most intensively studied model reactions, the electron transfer between stilbenes and various electron donors and acceptors, respectively, are discussed in more detail /1-3/. In an attempt to make an assignment of the observed vibrational frequencies of both the stilbene anion and cation, various deuterium substituted stilbenes are included in the study.
