Abstract

“The absorption spectrum of $ND_{2}$ which lies in the region 5000-7000$\AA$ has been analyzed following the recently accomplished analysis of the corresponding $NH_{2}$ bands. Rotational constants for the ground state are found to be {A}^{\prime}^{\prime}_{000}=13.31\mbox{ cm}^{-1},{B}^{\prime}^{\prime}_{000}=6.18\mbox{ cm}^{-1},{C}^{\prime}^{\prime}_{000}=4.30\mbox{ cm}^{-1} The bond length and bond angle, as deduced from these constants, are identical with the corresponding values for $NH_{2}$, viz. {r}^{\prime}^{\prime}_{000}({ND})=1.025\tilde A, <({D}-{N}-{D})=103^\circ20^{\prime} The spectrum consists mainly of a long progression of bands involving successive quanta of the bending vibration in the linear upper state. A few bands involving excitation of an N-D stretching vibration in the upper state have also been identified. The vibronic structure of the upper state has been studied and compared with the structure calculated by Renner for an electronic II state.”
