Abstract

CsF produced by reactively scattered beams of Cs and $SF_{6}$ has been studied in a molecular beam electric resonance spectrometer. The radio frequency rotational transitions $(\Delta M = \pm 1, \Delta J = 0)$ with resolved vibrational structure are observed. It is found that the lowest four vibrational states are appreciably populated. The relative intensities of the observed lines can be described approximately by a Boltzmann distribution corresponding to a temperature of about $800^{\circ} K$. This distribution is qualitatively different from that predicted by a simple spectator-stripping reaction mechanism.
