Abstract

A preliminary microwave study of $N_{2}O_{3}$ [JACS, 87, 5259 (1965)] showed that the molecule was planar with a very long central N-N bond. In the present study the microwave spectra of six isotopic species have been measured and a complete structure derived. The calculation of the refined structure is complicated by large effects of vibration-rotation interaction evident from the isotopic spectra. The spectra of four vibrational satellites have been studied including the torsion. The dipole moment and quadrupole coupling constants have been determined for the ground vibrational state. The chemical bonding in $N_{2}O_{3}$ will be discussed.
