Abstract

“The infrared absorption spectra of LiO, $Li_{2}O$ AND $Li_{2}O_{2}$ isolated in solid krypton matrices have been investigated from $300-1000\;cm^{-1}$. The molecules were generated by vaporising solid $Li_{2}O$ in it high temperature effusion cell and trapped in solid krypton matrices at approximately $4^{\circ} K$ and $20^{\circ} K$. The spectrum indicates that $Li_{2}O$ is almost linear and $Li_{2}O_{2}$ is rhombic with an angle of $116^{\circ}$ at Li atom. On the basis of ionic model the equilibrium angle is found to be $118^{\circ}$. The similarity of Lithium Oxide dimer to Lithium Chloride dimer, along with other details will be discussed.”
