Abstract

“The infrared absorption spectra of LiO, Li2O AND Li2O2 isolated in solid krypton matrices have been investigated from 300−1000cm−1. The molecules were generated by vaporising solid Li2O in it high temperature effusion cell and trapped in solid krypton matrices at approximately 4K and 20K. The spectrum indicates that Li2O is almost linear and Li2O2 is rhombic with an angle of 116 at Li atom. On the basis of ionic model the equilibrium angle is found to be 118. The similarity of Lithium Oxide dimer to Lithium Chloride dimer, along with other details will be discussed.”
