Abstract
These are the first eighty pages of a much longer work that I began seven years ago and consist of the first major arc of the narrative. This is the story of Elam, a boy who has spent the last two years hiding in a forest from his abusers. He is suddenly faced with the reality that he can no longer run from his past. These eighty pages cover his return to his home city of Ember and also introduce other main characters. These pages serve as a launching point for the rest of the story.
