Abstract

A series of ring-puckering transitions have been observed in the far infrared spectrum of bicyclo [3.2.0] hept-l-ene in the region $30-120 cm^{-1}$. A reduced mass calculation has been carried out in order to obtain the kinetic energy expansion, which was in turn used for the one-dimensional potential energy calculation. The results show the molecule to be non-planar with a double-minimum potential energy function similar to that of cyclopentene.
