THE USE OF HIGH RESOLUTION X-RAY PHOTON EMISSION SPECTROSCOPY FOR LIGAND CHARACTERIZATION

Abstract
Reports published to date indicate that high resolution x-ray photon emission spectroscopy may be a useful tool for ligand characterization. Discussion is offered on the conditions required for such capability. These include the symmetry of the molecule, the location of the initial vacancy, and the nature of the ligand involved. Examples will be offered in terms of S, P, and Cl central and pseudo central atom vacancy initial x-ray states. Ligand atom vacancy initial states will be evaluated from the point of view of characterizing bonding and antibonding in selected aromatic molecules.
