Abstract

The fluorescence excitation spectrum and dispersed fluorescence spectra of p-hydroxy-trans-stilbene $(OH-Ph-CH=CH-Ph)$ and p-hydroxy-p'-methyl-trans-stilbene $(OH-Ph-CH=CH-Ph-CH_{3})$ will be presented. The effect of the electron donating remote substituent on the low frequency skeletal modes of the stilbene and on the barrier to methyl internal rotation will be discussed.
