Abstract
The contributions resulting from the Coriolis interactions to infrared absorption spectra are known to arise through first order pertubation, by the coupling of angular momenta. However, vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) intensities acquire the coriolis contributions in zero order itself. We noticed that these zero order contributions induce VCD in degenerate Vibrations of achiral molecules and that the individual components of a degenerate set provide antipode contributions to maintain the overall optical inactivity of achiral molecules. In chiral molecules these contributions are found to be of the same order as the VCD effects found in solution phase. The formulation of the aforementioned contributions and some preliminary calculations will be discussed in the presentation.
