Abstract
The Raman spectra of crystalline methane in phase II and deuterated methane in phases II and III are reported. The internal vibrations as well as the lattice modes are presented. To aid in the structure determination of methane, the Raman spectra of the partially deuterated methanes doped in methane and deuterated methane are shown. These Raman data coupled with that from the existing and previously unreported infrared studies provides a better understanding of the structure of methane.
