Abstract

The $\nu_{2}$ bands (C-O stretch) of $H_{2}CO$ ($\sim$$1750 cm^{-1}$) and $D_{2}CO (\sim 1700$ $cm^{-1}$) have been studied by the technique of laser stark $spectroscopy.^{1}$ Numerous stark resonances between lines in these bands and twenty-two CO laser lines in the range from 1690 to $1765 cm^{-1}$ have been detected and measured. These measurements have been used to determine the band origins, dipole moments (ground and excited states) and the rotational constants for each molecule. There is rather good agreement between the rotational constants determined by us and those determined from available microwave $measurements^{2}$ on the $\nu_{2} = 1$ states.
